It looks like you could set up a strong 3-1 backgame starting from this position. The big problem is what Lenny pointed out. When it loses, the backgame will lose more gammons than the game we are now entering into. It may be that the winning chances are about equal.

Steve mentioned an interesting idea. He speculated that making the 20pt anchor might be correct even if we had a spare we could hit with on the 8pt. I think he may be right.
