White needs 18 crossovers to save gammon. After ripping off two, blue will only need 9. I don't see any reason to volunteer a shot in order to win more gammons.

I'll just play 6/off 3/off 4/1. I see that the stripped distribution may force shots, but the alternatives are to leave a gap or a direct shot now.

Could leaving a shot now (6/off 3/off(2) be better? Blue will certainly recover and likely still win a gammon even when hit. QF says that's the play, but I don't do QF. I'll stick with my play.
