My reaction was the same as yours.

Here's a make-believe "just-so" story to justify making the 4pt. It creates a powerful board when the opponent is stripped and stacked. Often a big motivation for anchoring up is to avoid getting gammoned. But are we really going to get gammoned a lot? If our opponent starts hitting loose, the chances are pretty good that we'll be the ones chalking up the gammon. Making the 4pt wins more games and some Sticky guy claims that that's good.

Of course if the bot prefers anchoring up then I'll pull out a different just-so story to explain why anchoring is obviously correct. ;-)
