When I was 5 or 6 my grandma sent me to the store to get a gallon of milk and she said I could keep the change. The change did not seem correct and I presented my calculation. The clerk said it cost more than I thought because of tax. At this time Illinois where I lived did not have a sales tax but Iowa where my grandma lived did. What is tax I asked? I was told it was extra money one had to pay. I ran home and started to cry and asked my mom and grandma what tax was. I wondered why they don't just mark the price as including tax and make everything simpler for everyone. They could also make every price a multiple of $.05 and also avoid having to deal with pennies then.
