Also consider the consequences of being hit - it is far more painful to get hit after making the 5, as you have blots littered around the board now - OK, well 1 extra blot. However that jacks up your gammon losses pretty significantly. Whites entering numbers dont all play so well if you leave the 5pt slotted too - think of 55 - this blots now - its a small thing, but valuable.

Makes complete sense to me that money is making the 5, matchplay (at a score to your advantage) is making the ace.
