When players agree to the box, as the majority do, I personally don't require them to use a cup too. For one thing, they might then decide to not use the box.

Don't forget though that you can only approach randomness, in theory we can never quite achieve it. For practical purposes though, you can, and a well designed baffle box may well do this without cups (let alone shaking as well). Whether it's worth spending an extra second (or two) using a cup (and shaking) is a matter of personal preference really.

But Stick brought up a valid point, a while back, about not letting players get their hands on the dice, ie they should be in a cup where there is less opportunity to switch them or whatever.
