I keep getting dinged by XG for missing loose hits in my homeboard so I'm making a conscious effort to always "take a look" at them. It's annoying to make a blunder and find that the correct move was one that wasn't even on my radar so I'm trying to expand my move filter. I think you're right that the loose hit is anti-positional, but I'm still going to take a look before rejecting it.
