The last time you mentioned this, I went to the bridge site and watched a few games. The experience was a highly positive one. I think you are absolutely right about this.

Video streams transfer relatively larges amounts of data. In contrast, the kind of system you describe probably needs only 1 packet per move. That's something like 1KB per move instead of, say, between 0.5 and 1 Mbps (0.5 to 1 megabit per second) for streaming. The the cost of maintaining a server that feeds even 1000 simultaneous connections would be very low. When the commentary is text-based (without audio), the costs stay low. Even an audio stream, however, uses orders of magnitude less bandwidth than a video stream.
