New points system

1) In tennis there is virtually always a full draw correct? Do you want to always round up to the next power of 2 for points purposes?
In most of the competitions there are seeds and they usually get a bye for the first round. I lifted the points system straight from tennis as they have been running this system successfully for a long time. It's simple for the fans to follow. If a bg player is lucky enough to get a bye then I would count it the same as a first round win.

2) In tennis it is virtually always single elimination correct? Do you want to just ignore consolation and later brackets? What about Swiss tournaments?
Yes, tennis is always a single elimination (except the masters final). I certainly need advice from experienced players to advise on how points should be awarded for double elimination and consolation. I only really looked at the results from California State Championship 2013 which has a double elimination. As everyone who lost went into the second chance I could see that a player would have a round that the reached and could be awarded points.

Consolations need to be considered. The California one had 32 players, so it could be a ranking competition, perhaps at the advanced level.

3) Why require a person to register to get points?
Registering solves the problem of several people with the same name going to competitions. By identifying themselves before hand I won't assign points incorrectly.

Also, I won't be updating the records of people who are not interested. I don't have any automation on this yet and have to enter all the results by hand. I don't want this to be an unpaid full time job.

4) Something I don't know: Who decides if a competition is an Open? How is it decided if it is at Masters or Advanced level? Is there a difference?
