Of course if the time controls are made long enough, then this would be true, but one reason that I'm reluctant to try out a tournament is that the standard time controls seem too aggressive to me.

I'm certainly in favor of clocks, but I'm not in favor of arguments that prioritize the interests of spectators and TD's over the needs of players who want to play their best. And anyway, I don't find fast games more interesting and fun; quite the contrary.

At some point, increasing the amount of time available does not increase the quality of play detectably. But it doesn't seem to me that we're close to that limit yet—not if players like Ashkenazi and MCG can lose on time.
