I have Kleinman's Vision Laughs at Counting with Advice to the Dicelorn. There is some valuable information about short bearoffs and saving the gammon that is still valid. If you play in chouettes, he has some useful advice about chouette strategy. The "Advice to the Dicelorn" is a fictional backgammon column written by Miss Lonelyblots, and the positions and analysis are interesting even though in many cases, modern bots disagree with the play. It's not the first backgammon book I would recommend but it's far from worthless.
