I think the strong argument against seeding in backgammon compared to e.g. high-level tennis is that all players tend to put their own money at stake. It would seem a little unfair to me that some of these players should do so with worse cashing chances (obviously except for the skill part).

In addition, I think the major reason lesser players so often reach the late stages in backgammon tournaments is the huge contribution from luck to backgammon match results, not the draws.
