Personally, I think its just impractical. People will be offended by their seeding; without using a formal rankings list, seeding is very subjective; also unfair to an extent too - who wants "new guy" that noone knows to play against current world champion in round 1? Will "new guy" come back after tossing $300 to lose in round 1 to the best player?

I applaud your continued attempts to improve the way things are done though. Keep em coming. So that I can continue to bash your ideas .

I'm kidding. I think if backgammon had less variance, and had less of a luck factor associated with it, then seeding would work fine - as it does in chess / bridge etc.
