I think 5/2 is too wasteful in gammonpips.

On the other hand 7/6 is too safe.

As soon as white has stripped his 5-point we can run with 1 checker from the anchor.

We will get a lot of chances after white has cleared his 5-point.

Any 1 (except 31 and D1) will give us a direct shot.

When we get to hit this shot white will probably have more than 5 checkers off.

So we need a prime to pick up another checker.
