I didn't mean that by putting a spare on the 6 you're making it too dangerous for White to leave the anchor. He will stay there regardless if your spare is on 8 or on 6. So by leaving the spare on 8 it still works as a builder for the 7p. If it sits on the 6, then that checker does absolutely nothing for you because White is occupying the 5p.

It is always a good idea to aim at building points in front of your opponent's anchor rather than behind it.

I also disagree about your choice being good in terms of "fluidity". If you don't split, then those rearmost checkers are just blocked. You need to split them now while it is not dangerous. White is not going to disasemble his prime to hit you lose anyway. The only real sick number we're giving him is 44.
