2015 Texas Backgammon Championships -- San Antonio -- Attendance Update, and more

Date: Monday, 22 December 2014, at 11:57 p.m.

We've 5 1/2 weeks to go before the tournament starts.

Early registration, hotel reservations, and verbal confirmations are running very high with already well over 100 confirmed attendees -- and we all know backgammon players are notoriously tardy in such details. We expect to surpass our 2014 attendance total.

We're confident the Championship field, particularly, will be larger and even stronger than the magnificent 2014 field. As I've previously stated, I think we will have at least half of the 32 current Giants and maybe more. It appears we will have as many as 8 or 9 players from the current #33 thru #64 Giants. So, we expect 24 to 27 of the top 64. There will be a number of other well known players of significance who have previously been on the Giants list or are destined to be on the Giants list. We could have as many as seven former World Champions.

We again expect a large, strong Advanced field; hopefully, exceeding 2014's 52 players. We hope to at least match our 2014 Limited field of 21 players.

We expect the Longhorn Classic Masters Jackpot and the Alamo Classic Limited Jackpot to exceed 32 player brackets -- we are making plans to accommodate all who wish to play in those events.

The USBGF Tournament of Stars doubles event for Giants, Founding Sponsors, Prime Tournament Benefactors, Hall of Fame inductees, and other luminaries will be large and exciting.

The innovative Dual-Duel event is always exciting and entertaining.

We will once again provide continuous dual-channel streaming to provide those unable to attend with extensive opportunities to watch many of the best in the game battle for the championships.

With our many promotions including Geoffrey Parker Games sponsorship, the free-entry USBGF Prime Tournament event, and the 'Slay a Giant' bonus program, we expect it to be a fun, unique tournament. We also have Mochy conducting another Proficiency Exam and Phil Simborg providing his usual informative and entertaining interactive lectures.

And don't forget the USBGF Awards Dinner and American Backgammon Hall of Fame inductions on Friday evening.

All in the wonderful city of San Antonio.
