why is there always a jerk in the crowd?

1. I am not trying to promote backgammon as a mindsport when gambling at a tournament;
2. Anyone else who wants to make a bet and go through the trouble of being responsible for collecting and paying all the money is free to do so and take any rake they want;
3. Anyone who doesn't like the idea doesn't or doesn't like the rake doesn't have to bet;
4. I am also generating a lot of fun for a lot of people who enjoy doing this and I am generating a nice tip for the tournament staff.
5. It is "below the radar" to the public, as we have to deal with all kinds of local laws and regulations that restrict people from what all of us who go to tournaments believe is a perfectly fun and fair way to wager. It is not below the radar to anyone at the tournament, including the staff, and it is never done if the TD objects to the idea. I cannot publicly say that it is done with the TD's approval as that would be an acknowledgment that the TD is aware of the bet, and I would not make such a statement publicly. Clearly the TD would do this himself, and/or run a calcutta if he thought he could without taking a risk that could threaten the future running of the tournament. Therefore I am doing a service to the TD and the players who are interested in this, and to those who are not interested, they are in no way affected.
6. I am sure there is no way I can convince anyone with a closed mind who brings up red herring arguments that have nothing to do with the case at hand and is taking quotes completely out of context, but I am going to the trouble to provide the above response for the benefit of anyone reading this who might have an open mind.
Lastly, if there is someone else going to any of these tournaments who would like to do this and take a 5 percent rake and give 5 percent to the TD that would be trusted by the players and the TD to handle the bets properly and pay out as advertised, I would be delighted to step aside, as I would love to be making these bets myself. I have no expectation that I would always be the person doing this at every tournament nor would I want to do it...I have too many other things to do like donating my time to helping novices and giving lectures and raising money for the Boards for Kids Program and working with people to start backgammon clubs at their local schools and encouraging people to join the USBGF and giving free lessons to kids, and, oh yes, playing in the tournament and working on my game.
So accusing me of being against promoting the game because I like to help the TD and the tournament and the players have a little extra action for a fucking 5 percent for my time and trouble and possible risk of loss if there is a problem or conflict about money paid or collected is simply unfair and unkind and nasty and, well, bullshit.
Now I remember why I stopped posting ideas on this forum for so long....one or two jerks that are always looking to attack the person and not the idea.
