I would have cleared the bar point in anticipation of getting the bear off started, since I am ahead in the race. And I would have been wrong. :) [I am basing this off of XG Mobile, not a rollout.]

I thought about the correct play, but overruled it in favor of getting checkers off sooner rather than later. I also considered the hit, but with the substantial racing lead (Keith count) I thought it best to play passive here.

It is interesting how in so many of these types of positions it pays to keep the 5 pt block, delaying your bear off a roll, versus coming in. I suppose the fact that you put a checker on the unpopulated 1 pt does something to increase your equity in the bear off, notwithstanding that it starts one roll later. But I suppose the the real reason for the play is that only 6s escape and you have another shot at pointing on him next time - turning a likely win into a certain one.
