Patrick De Wilde: Apart from some endgame situations, backgammon positions are too complicated to be evaluated with mathematical precision. Even the best backgammon playing software uses a heuristic, and is not perfect. Therefore there is nothing inconsistent about what you describe.

That is absolutely NOT what's going on here.
