Say we play safe with 9/8 6/4 then there are not a lot of good numbers for white.

He may build an extra point with {31,53}.

Could make his 8-point with {41,32} and maybe {52} played 13/8 6/4.

With {52,54} he might choose to break his bar-anchor or play {54} as 13/4.

I think you're right Daniel, white doesn't need a 5 specifically.

White only has a few good moves after the safe blue play.

His stretched and almost stripped position is awkward.

On his second move he may be forced to give up his midpoint.

We (blue) should maybe wait for this while we play our spares from the midpoint and wait until white is forced to leave a blot on his barpoint.
