OTB I quickly played 7/6(2) to avoid a direct shot. Then I played 3/1, hoping to be able to mend the board later, which was clearly the wrong idea. I did consider opening a lower point, but now I understand that this is not about keeping a decent board but about avoiding shots at all cost.
