In Response To: Streaming Matches - Optional? (Stick)

Barry, I believe that one should be able to decline to be streamed. It gets annoying sometimes when you are asked repeatedly because you keep winning and approaching the finals or whatever.

People would be more interested in Sticks matches, or Neils, obviously. One time I was going to play Robertie in the first round somewhere, and they asked to stream us. Bill declined saying it was a distraction. He didn't consult with me, just flat declined.

I have been forced to have a match streamed/recorded by someone who had failed to produce a copy of the last match that I played with him, and he recorded. I had no recourse, so, while it seems one should have a good reason to decline... I think that any reason should suffice. Why make someone be streamed if it makes them nervous, for instance?

I have been in both camps, but now I believe that a player should reserve the right to decline.

Consider yet another angle of this controversy: Harvey Gillis made up some ridiculous conditions in LA once, before our final match... made the director move the entire streaming table and discontinue using big fuzzy dice for the spectators benefit... Because he was "serious" about the final. I suppose I wasn't? My point here is to remember when you reach the finals, it is not all about you, and you should accommodate certain peculiarities because you are in the finals and you are doing something for the good of backgammon. Deal with your issues and remember that both of you have to play under the same conditions.
