In Response To: Streaming Matches - Optional? (christian munk-christensen)

It is one's right in the same sense that it is one's right not to be photographed and published without permission. If I'm making a movie I might say that you should be flattered that I found your face so interesting that I wanted to include it for the world to see but you may not agree for whatever reason. Perhaps you have faked your death and now that's blown. In the case of backgammon, suppose my wife hates backgammon so I've told her I was off in Cancun with my mistress over the weekend and then my match is streamed and one of her friends (probably that bitch Debbie!) sees it and tells her. Who among us can honestly say that hasn't happened to him? But seriously I don't think there should be an expectation at this point that one may have to play a publicly streamed match if one joins a tourney unless that is explicitly stated by the TD beforehand. I doubt it will affect attendance but if streaming is felt to be an important feature, especially for the later matches, at this point in backgammon culture the burden should be on the TD to make it known beforehand or allow anyone unwilling to to decline. Just my opinion. After all, that's what was being solicited here, right? (Opinions, that is. Not necessarily mine.)
