The question is not correct. You have no definition of "game", that's why you can not make comparision between Backgammon today and many years ago. Do you mean what the players think about this game now and what they thought 50 years ago? Or do you want to know about understanding of some specific positions and handling with the cube nowadays and in the first tournaments? Do you want to compare knowledge about money games or master's matches too in the same time period?
