Backgammon more of a "game of skill" now than in the past?

"I note, rather, a lot of opposition to (and infeasibility of implementing of) suggestions, such as longer tournaments, longer matches, and seeded flights, that would make our better players more likely to bring home the trophy, or the dough."
If one of the hopes of the backgammon community is to encourage more players to come and stay, one way to dash them would be to give the strongest players -- already favored by skill, and often most willing to purchase buy-backs -- a further advantage by seeding them as in tennis.
Is there a problem where we feel we have too many different faces winning tournaments?
Don't forget that one of the things that makes backgammon so much fun and such an exquisite $ game is precisely the degree to which a player stands a palpable chance to win in a field of stronger players. Finding additional ways to reward the strongest (and already most successful) is also a way to discourage others from playing at all.
If it's felt that we need more ways for the best players to be recognized for their prowess, there could be paper-and-pencil Quiz events! A series of say 25 problems are projected on a screen (or streamed to devices) and everybody writes their plays. Lowest error rate wins!
