Attempt at clarification--the answer is obvious

"A huge percentage of people who play tournament backgammon also gamble at backgammon at times, and many of us, including me, play more hours of money games than we do of match play. So the tournament and skill players are also largely money players, at least part of the time, as well."
It's funny and maybe non-intuitive, but I regard Tournament play more like gambling than my $ play.
The reason is: (a) it is rarely a 100% return situation, so it's more like a casino situation, and more importantly (b) there's more luck involved because win % can be trumped by the arbitrary (luck) order of victories. For instance, if you win 75% of your matches, sequences like W W W W W W L L will win a lot more of a return than W W L W W W L W.
I feel far more in control of my destiny in $ play.
