Headphones in Backgammon?

I don't usually wear headphones while playing,
but I always carry them with me into the playing room.
Sometimes the noise and the chatter certain people's voices distract me terribly.
I am getting much better at tuning it out,
but here is a funny story from the CT State last October...

I am playing this guy who is clearly better than I,
and I was winning.
He was humming one bar of something over and over again and it was distracting not just me,
but the whole table of 6 other people besides the 2 of us.
That game ended and I reached into my bag and put my headphones on.
He looked at me like I was crazy.
I simply said to him...Oh, sorry! I like my music better than I like your music.
He then stopped humming his silly one bar incessantly.
After I beat him, and he left, the other people at the table thanked me and told me that I handled it great.
We had a big laugh. haha.
