That's the one. Assuming you guys weren't gabbing between games with the clock stopped (which I have no reason to surmise/conclude) then you were perfectly within the rules. Although the analog clock rules wouldn't have allowed this long of a match, those rules were soundly defeated because it changed (too much) the way BG is played. Not only were there sneaky/clever ways to (legally) game the system, it put extra emphasis on not playing complicated games such as backgames.

The point I was trying to make was that in such cases giving the players extra time would go against the purpose of clocks -- to keep the event moving along.
