Can I sell the box?

It sounds as though Boston chouettes rules are pretty close to Chicago's -- Capt. vs. Box is all that's relevant to who gets the box.
In practical terms, I've rarely found someone in a chouette who wanted to pass up the box, but if someone did, I don't know anyone who would *pay* for the privilege of getting in the box. One thing I think would be absolutely not okay is any box 'sale' that interfered with the order of play -- -- i.e., selling the box to the guy who just lost it. There could be all sorts of maneuvering.
I think that if someone really doesn't want to play in the box at all, maybe they shouldn't be in a chouette -- but if that's the case there doesn't seem much harm in allowing them to just cycle through the team except keeping track of order might be a nuisance.
An interesting tradition I've never heard of would be allowing someone to relinquish the box after winning -- we always talk about the "graceful" box exit where after winning a few big games you get to drop a clear pass without suffering a big hit on the scoresheet. We don't explicitly *disallow* it - - but this would tend to undercut some of the drama of the game, and make for fewer big box runs (some would be aborted).
Unfortunately, our Boston chouettes tend to grind down to a really slow speed when there are 4+ players involved -- typically just 4-5 games an hour. I liked the way the 'no consulting until the cube reaches 4' rule we played last weekend in New York sped up play, but on the other hand it made for a somewhat less social, less funny session. And this rule would be really tough on any distinctly weaker players in the game.
Phil -- I'd be interested in seeing those Chicago Rules if you could email 'em to me!
