I thought it was a pretty bad call too. They had 3 downs and timeout left. After the game Carroll said that they didn't have the match-up in there for running it, and didn't want to waste their timeout to sub players out. They had 3 wide receivers in verses New England lining up in a goal formation. I would have either ran the ball there anyhow, and if you don't get in, use your timeout and sub out your receivers. Or, if you're going to pass try a fade route to the corner of the end zone. It is less likely to get picked off, and will better exploit New England's defensive formation. I know this is all hindsight, but regardless, with a timeout remaining and being at the 1 yard line with Lynch as your back, I would have at least ran it on 2nd and 3rd, then all options are open on 4th down.
