San Antonio--Good and Bad and Shameless Plug

Never plan to leave to go home until the day after the tournament is scheduled to end
This is sage advice.
For example, if attendees of the next ABT event, the 3rd Capital Classic Backgammon Championships from February 20-22, 2015 in Herndon, VA suffer an early exit from the main events, they have might have a choice on Sunday between side events or chouettes or sightseeing in our nation's capital, many attractions of which are free (i.e., already paid for by the United States taxpayers).
But I would advise them to ensure they book their hotel room at the group rate by February 5, which is fast approaching.
And while I know that $10 will not make or break the majority of viewers, I do know that backgammon players like to maximize equity, so the deadline to receive a free entry into the $500 Free-Roll event is a February 7 postmark with a deposit. Local players may provide a deposit in person at my local February 8 tournament in Vienna, VA. ($10 FreeRoll re-entries or walk-in entries with 80% added to the $500 will be available on-site). Exceptions to this policy regarding a free entry will be granted only if you meet one of these three conditions: your name is printed on the brochure under Sunday's activities in the 'Tournament Schedule' section, you were the 2014 ABT Player of the Year, or if you are ranked either #20 or #21 on the current 2013 Giants of Backgammon list.
Oh, and one final observation- the 1990s called and want their website back and whoever put up that web page is not threatening to take away Tara's job anytime soon. But that doesn't mean we can't all have fun in Herndon in 3 weeks, does it?
