San Antonio--Good and Bad

Phil's exactly right -- the solution really needs to come from the top (organizers, TD), not from expecting individuals not to enter events that are open to them.

In both the NY Metro and San Antonio events there were entries on the Seniors or other small-matchlength (2-5 pts) events where there was a 1st round match on the board on Friday that was still unplayed by Sunday. This seems ridiculous.

What about a system where at, say 9 O'clock each evening, the TD uses a special symbol or marker to indicate currently slated matches that must be begun the next morning immediately at the starting time, if not that evening? Late penalty points would be assessed. In cases where even such matches threaten to delay logjam the Main events, a 1-pt match length could be imposed.

In other words, I think part of the problem is simply that there is an insufficient sense of urgency around playing these side matches on Fridays / Saturdays and the brackets might need a little firmer prodding.
