You said "By process of elimination, attack is the best game plan here. With that comes maintaining maximum contact and bringing more ammunition into the zone. "
To me, if attacking were the best (and only valid) game plan we'd come in and hit with the three. We already have ten men in the zone, what's the hold up? It also would keep the opponent from potentially popping out immediately with a six.
As I see it we have a few possible game plans still available to us. Might we attack in the future and will that extra man in the zone/spare on the eight point help with that? Sure it will. We'll only do so though if we get the natural numbers to do so or the opponent flies ahead in the race by a more significant amount.
We are close enough in the race that pissing away racing equity isn't so tasty right now esp. when we're technically outboarded. By hanging back we have great board coverage without being under attack ourselves. We pick up the loose blot in the process and now it's the opponent's turn to find something to do.
If you play this out some I think you'll see next turn we make a priming improvement for the most part that may then allow us down the road to attack naturally but it is far from our best or only game plan. We may continue priming or if our back checker feels the heat we'll hop out and see where we're at. Hope that was all coherent because I have to run ...if not just lmk and I'll clarify later.
