I find this to be a very difficult play. I don't think plays involving shifting 3/1 are correct since we have two plays that look better to my eyes. We aren't set up for blitzing and will have only a 3 pt board if we shift and not much aimed at the 2 and 3 pts.

1) 24/20(2) is a nice positional play, especially against our opp's stacked builders. We have a decent lead in the race and don't want to get stuck on our ace pt if we stay back and our opps make a couple of quick good points with their builders. After making their 5 pt here, I have noted Ray saying that all those builders now have no job (since they can't make the 5 pt).

Note that after 24/20(2) we still have good control of our 4 pt since it is extremely dangerous for our opps to put a checker there. Of course their anchoring 32 leaves us very unhappy but we still have a clear advantage after that and a 15 number shot.

2) 8/4(2) is a strong play and a natural way to improve our board. We will love this play if our opps throw some dud next turn and we are able to hit them someplace. However, we don't have any direct builders and may find that we can't follow up aggressively for a couple of turns. The path from 8/4(2) then adding a builder from the 10 pt or mid pt and then doing something with that builder(s) may be look slow when our opps have now made their own 3 pt board and our back checkers remain back on their ace pt.

I looked at both positions a long time, and think that 24/20(2) is best here to blunt their counter play and to avoid any sort of blockade vs blockade game when we have a lead in the race. 8/4(2) trades the 8 pt for the better 4 pt, but the 8 pt has value. 24/20(2) trades their worthless (to us) ace pt for their 5 pt. 24/20(2) also makes the more difficult point to make, IMHO.

24/20(2) gets my vote and certainly has to be the DMP play.
