Randomgammon

True random gammon is what KG used to do years ago. You close your eyes and scramble all the checkers, open them and make sure there are not two checkers of opposite colors on one point and play from there. To me that is just too long and difficult and not at all like backgammon.
What I have done is set up some very drastic positions, like one player having a back game with 13 checkers back, or a normal setup except instead of your 6 point you start with all the checkers on your 9 point, and instead of 2 checkers back on the ace point, you start with 2 on the 3 point and 2 on the 18 point. All kinds of different setups.
Then you play the game, one time, with the cube in the center, using money game rules. After the game, you turn the board around and the other player plays with the back game...you switch sides (the positions are printed out on a handout sheet). I will be happy to send you the random gammon positions I have used in tournaments and events in the past, but you can easily create your own.
After two games, if you both have the same number of points, you play a tie breaker. The tie breaker is a DMP game with another crazy setup, but both players have the same setup.
