Normally I don't post on opinion posts, but I went to almost every ABT tournament over the last 12 months and I think that my opinion is actually worth something this time.
First of all, I realized very quickly that entering too many side events creates scheduling problems for myself so I just simply stopped playing in side events. Instead I looked for chouettes. However, a few of those tournaments offered running jackpots and those I would play.
Solution #1: More jackpots. 4 8 or 16 players. But this way if you are out of the main you have something quick and high equity to play in.
Solution #2: More chous. I come to the tournaments for the chous probably more than the main. Chous is how you be social and meet new people, so don't be afraid to start up a chou at a tournament.
Solution #3: More speedgammon. Speedgammon is awesome and quick.
Solution #4: More swiss or pure double elim. Every tournament I went to that had swiss format had no scheduling problems because it is much more easily controlled. Either do single elim, pure double elim, or swiss. Pure double elimination has no conso or LC, just double elimination main fight. That and pure single elim is my favorite.
