Mochy/Simborg Duel Announced

Bob, I will discuss your idea with Mochy...every rule we have mutually agreed on. Personally I tend to think that resetting each game keeps each game more like a true money game, except played faster, and I don't think that will have much of an affect on either of our play until we get to difficult cube and checker plays where we would probably both like to take more time. The major reason for a clock at all is to keep this moving for the sake of spectators, as our hope is to turn this into a media event that will attract more of a general audience and bring some publicity to the game, as well as raise money for Mochy's kids. Also, when skilled players watch a streamed match, I believe one of the things that makes backgammon less interesting for spectators is slow play.
You are correct that a running clock for the entire 30 games would be more complicated and lead to a much more interesting time-management aspect, but at the same time it could cause the outcome of the competition to be greatly changed because of the clock. If Mochy or I have a really bad game because of the clock, at least it will only affect just that one game.
This is also not just about the live stream, as we hope to have an edited version that only shows the highlights--the bigger cubes, more interesting plays, with commentary, to make it more interesting on YouTube and other media. The potential for thousands to see it later, when edited, is far greater than the number of people who might be watching it streamed.
