In Response To: Mochy/Simborg Duel Announced (Phil Simborg)

there has been a lot of complex discussion here about this match, much of it over my head. Which i suppose is good, carter wanting to do something with ammo kinda scares me a bit tho ;-) see his post.lol

One thing that I have not read that's perhaps the most basic idea of all the chatter, is after 30 games, if its even or close to even, and players have more gas in their tank, why not extend it? That can be discussed on the fly and decided the day its played. It would be short changing everyone if its a great match and its very close with great BG being played to just stop at 30 because 30 was decided 8 weeks give or take before the first shake.

i'd keep a open mind to how long the match will be, with 30 being the agreed minimum number of games.

In pool we play ahead sets, the game is over when one side is 8-10 games ahead net-that number is negotiated before the match starts(i've seen low as 5 and high as 12-in pool thats a big number not in BG), that might take 2 hours might take 12(usually in one pocket 8 ahead is 6-7 hours). It can also be agreed upon that after say X # of hours if no player has reached the finish line(the number of games/points agreed upon) then the player in the "+" column gets prorated the price of each game. In this case $1000/pt.

the other good thing about a format like this is that there is a conclusion!!!, at the end, someone gets paid, someone loses. There is rarely a tie. What happens if Phil/Mochy play 30 games and someone wins 1 point and both sides are still wanting to play. it just stops? buzz kill....

Events with conclusions generate more interest afterwards as there is something to talk about which leads to more of the same kind of action between other people. if their game ends up being a 30 game wash it will be forgotten 2 weeks later. I know how to perpetuate action, that's not BG it's human nature. I'm a horrible BG player but i know a pile about action and IMO that drives people to play. If its worth doing, its worth doing for $.

My point is don't be too stiff on the 30 game thing and ya might have something that would catch on, how can that be bad? unless Carter is doing something with ammo?

best eric
