I recently had to collate a set of rules for the New Zealand Champs this year. I initially favoured spectators being able to point out illegal moves but found it would be unworkable.

Instead we have 5 monitors so that at least from the semi finals onwards the matches will be monitored. A monitor has to do 3 things :-

1) point out illegal moves 2) take the score 3) ensure that the cube is placed back in the middle after every game.

Monitoring has satisfied the majority of the players and seems workable. It works because 2 of the monitors have very little chance of making the final 4 players.

We also wrote into the rules that a baffle box will be used in the final.
