Yes, I hope so too. There are many reasons for missing an opponent's NLM that are not unethical.
- Inattentiveness, which is sloppy but not cheating.
- A player doing a clocked pip count, keeping a running pip count, trying to remember an MET or Neil's Number, or some combination, all of which could affect his or her ability to spot misplays. That player may make a rational decision on how to invest his or her time.
- Maybe a casual player, in a lower division, simply isn't worried about it. For example, on the rare occasion I play craps, I don't watch the dealer like a hawk because that's too much work.
- A player hasn't gotten much sleep, or has a personal or medical problem, or is on the mend, or any number of other mental distractions.
If we're going to play LM, then the price to pay is some players are unable or unwilling to spot misplays as much as we'd like. That beats suspecting honest players of cheating. Look how players who played NLM in a NLM tournament were accused of cheating! I consider that a low point in BG history.
