The concern with this is angle shooting. For example, should I be able to preserve the timing of my questionable backgame by repeatedly making illegal moves and losing my turn?

Note that I am strongly opposed to penalties that involve losing a turn or losing a point. In fact, I'm opposed to any penalty that make the match play out differently than it would have in the absence of the illegal play -- at least in terms of actual plays made. This includes all the silliness about calling rolls and such.

I think the only reasonable penalties are time runoffs.
