If we save a 6 now, by dismantling our 6-point, what do we gain?

I was one of those who made an oddball play breaking the 6pt. My reason had nothing to do with saving a 6. I was trying to create a balanced distribution of spares so that we would be more likely to fill in some of the gaps in our board. Two dilly builders on the 3pt looked very inflexible to me.

I might have been wrong about the play, but my reason was not to save a playable 6.
