Good points, but just a couple things to nitpick:

I fully agree that it is extremely important. I just wonder about the 'increasingly' part. Think how much better the world would be if humans had long ago assigned randomness to so much they incorrectly perceived as non-random.

Bridge is another possibility.

Sort of, but competitive (duplicate) bridge today is no more random than chess. You are only scored on performance against those players who hold the exact same cards you possess.

Poker is a candidate, and adds game theory. But if a 'gambling game' is looked down upon, poker would be an even more difficult sell than backgammon.
