I just wonder about the 'increasingly' part. Think how much better the world would be if humans had long ago assigned randomness to so much they incorrectly perceived as non-random.
In my view, the importance of this skill is roughly proportional to the number of people you have to deal with, directly or indirectly. The number of people in the world has increased so the importance of this skill has increased.
Now, growth rates around the world are plummeting, so the world's population may stabilize soon, perhaps within our lifetime. Then the 'increasingly' part may be more debatable.
As for bridge, I basically agree with Bob. There's still a random deal and you have imperfect information so you have to directly apply "randomized reasoning" to the game state. This systemic randomness has no direct analogue in chess. Duplicate bridge reduces what you might call the "luck" of the deal but if you want to use the word "luck" in this way, then "luck" is no longer synonymous with "randomness."
