XG vs. GNU rollout speed

I tested a few positions and got much smaller speed ratios. In the positions I tested XG was about 1.5 to 3 times faster, depending on the position type.
I'm pretty sure that the default GNU setting (for recent GNU Windows builds) uses only one evaluation thread ("set threads 1" in the gnubgautorc). I'm guessing that you haven't changed this setting. You can also increase the cache size to something comparable to what you're using in XG; if you're already using a reasonably large cache, this will only make a small difference though.
One reason why many users use the GNU "World Class" settings is because they don't know how to change the move filters. If you prefer the XG settings (3-ply for checker decisions and a "mini-rollout" [XGR] for cube decisions), you can always change the GNU settings. Also note that XG's Normal search interval is narrower than GNU's World Class settings. See the Appendix in Xavier's Search Interval article.
