BMS(UK) Ranking Tournament, Castle Donington, February 2015: Report

Fourteen players participated in the first BMS(UK) ranking tournament at the East Midlands Airport Holiday Inn Hotel. The format comprised a truncated round robin of six eleven point matches played over Saturday and Sunday, 21st and 22nd February.

At the end of the fifth round, three players, Sean Clennell, Julian Fetterlein and Chris Rogers, where vying for first place, all having won 5 out of 5 matches. Of these three, only Julian won his last round match giving him an unblemished record and the tournament winner title. Sean and Chris were joined by Jon Barnes and Mark Calderbank with 5 out of 6 wins, in a 4-way split for second place. The 2nd place position was decided by the highest throw of the dice, with Jon Barnes double threes giving him the trophy.

Congratulations to Julian, Jon, Mark, Sean and Chris, and all the other participants for making this a successful inaugural tournament for BMS(UK).

I would like to make a special mention for the excellent sporting behaviour demonstrated by Chris Rogers in his final round match. When trailing 2-3 and having lost a doubled gammon, he corrected his opponent's mis-score of 2-5 to 2-7 on the shared scoreboard. Bravo Chris! PR RESULTS & AWARDS REPORT Transcription and analysis work was completed, on schedule, nearly 2 weeks after the play ended. Although there were a few technical glitches, causing missing sections of some of the matches, all matches played provided a full or representative sample for PR measurement purposes, with one exception; the match between Peter Bennet and Sean Clennell which was lost completely, unfortunately.

Full details of aggregate PR scores and grading levels achieved are provided on the BMAB website (http://bgmastersab.com/PlayerStatistics.html). Moreover, a complete collection of all the matches is available on the resources page in .mat format, which any bot should be able to read.

Congratulations to Jon Barnes for achieving the lowest aggregate PR of 4.79, and to Julian Fetterlein who won the PR side pool, with a PR of 5.21. Note that Jon was the Runner-Up in the tournament and Julian the Winner.
