Continuing on to the 18-point gives the fewest and least juicy targets to our trigger happy opponents.

For the reasons you specify, I think there is a lot of merit in your play. With bar/20 13/11 as my first choice, bar/18 was second. The Dillies are set to attack no matter where we leave the blot, and my play parks a blot on the 20pt, in front of the two stacks the Dillies most want to play from.

With a made 5pt, however, and more return shots when we are hit on the 20pt, I think we can deflect an attack there often enough to make it the superior play. Whether or not it is best, the margin is probably not very large.
