Earmuffs? isn't this meant tho be a luxury hotel?
I'm really amazed at how little regard many "quality" establishments accord to the aural ambience of their rooms -- which is mostly about music. Here in Boston/Cambridge, anyway there are a number of restaurants that take a lot of care with their menu, with their lighting, with their waitstaff, with their furnishings, with their drink menu . . . but music? They leave that to a bartender with an iPod who is free to put on whatever he or she wants, without any regard to the design of the space, the "character" of the cuisine, or anything else. Just -- indulge your taste!
And a lot of time, these are people who don't particularly have interesting taste, or any conscious intention of dovetailing the music with the broader ambience of the place. Sometimes an iPod is 'shuffling" music from widely divergent playlists, so you get Sinatra followed by Counting Crows and then a couple old Madonna songs. Or else they just play 'Buena Vist Social Club' over and over. (a couple decades ago it was that friggin Gypsy Kings record).
I've got sort of a running deal that if I hear "Under the Boardwalk" while spending more than $20 for an entree, I'm never coming back, never mind how good the food was.
I'm amazed that so many restauranteurs have such an enormous blindspot. It's disappointing to hear that an event as apparently;y wonderful as Cyprus would be spoiled in this way.
I'll still probably come in November though!
