I don't want to over think this... Why would it NOT be right just to make the opponents bar point and the 5 point. What roll is going to give white a take after that?

The players who make both bar points allow some (admittedly weak) counter play by leaving a blot on the midpoint.

Isn't it better to make inner board points against one checker back? Meanwhile plays where you do not make the five point when you can tend to be exceptions to the rule. I would keep it simple here.
