TC for a Match of Sets

A few months ago Paul Weaver stated on this forum that set type matches should be avoided in tournaments as they can be a scheduling nightmare for TD's. Whether or not there is more variance in the length of such matches than with the conventional method has been debated on this forum before. But if there is, then perhaps all we need to do is to rethink how TC are applied.

I'm sure I'm not the first player to suggest this, and maybe not on this forum either, but might it not make more sense if - rather than reset the clocks before a fresh set - there was a fixed amount of time for the whole match, regardless of how many sets it took? Some 2 set matches would take longer, and some 3 setters would be faster; they'd tend to meet in the middle.

Exactly how allowances were calculated could be simple or more complex. The simple method would be, in a 'best of 3 sets to 5 points' say, to allow 25 min total reserve time per player, instead of 10 min each per set.
